Meet Tweed Heads Chiropractor Laurence Irvine:

"From Burn-Out to Burning Bright!" would be the title of my life story, says Laurence Irvine.

"The key ingredient in my transformation from being physically, emotionally and mentally burnt out to realising my potential and living a life with high energy, vitality and a passionate life purpose was the discovery of the principles of chiropractic philosophy. The revelation in seeing the truth of what chiropractic is, quite simply changed my life."

"I know only too well how hectic life can get and also what a difference regular chiropractic care can make to one's well-being and zest for life", continues Laurence.

Inspired by My Calling:

"I still remember feeling inspired by my calling to be a chiropractor, declaring to my mother that I was going to be a chiropractor when I was 14 years old. As I knew nothing about chiropractic at the time, it was as if chiropractic chose me in that moment, without me having much say in it at all. So I followed through by setting up chiropractic work experience the next year with chiropractor Dr Alex Mommett, who was blind. This was an awe inspiring week that confirmed 100% that chiropractic was the right path for me. "

Chiropractic Education:

After 6 years at university, I graduated with my Masters of Chiropractic Science Degree from Macquarie University, Sydney, and a Bachelor of Human Sciences majoring in Anatomy and Physiology from the University of New South Wales, Sydney. Additional studies in Environmental Science were also completed at Charles Sturt University, Bathurst.

I was so keen to put my knowledge into real practice that I literally raced straight from my final exams in Sydney into my own clinics on the Gold Coast. Never one to do things by halves, I threw myself into 2 practices to begin with so I could get as much experience as possible. I remember the long drive from Sydney the day after passing my final board exam, arriving at the Gold Coast at 12pm and seeing my first patient at 2pm the same day, with a full waiting room to boot! Nothing like a bit of adrenaline to help kick off one's chiropractic career.

Like many people, the stress and long hours eventually caught up with me, so much so that I was so busy taking care of everyone else that I somehow neglected to keep up regular chiropractic care for myself!

When I re-discovered chiropractic for myself, it was like a switch going off, and the chain reaction of events that is life got so much better! My purpose in life became clear and my energy levels went through the roof. All of a sudden I was bounding out of bed in the morning, excited at the prospect of sharing chiropractic with others, witnessing people realise their full potential, and making their lives more fulfilling and enjoyable by tuning their nervous system to the optimal station for them.

Looking back, I can see how this turn in my life actually served to teach me a big lesson and restore my faith in the power of chiropractic.

At Home with Laurence Irvine:

Laurence loves living on the Tweed Coast with his family and feels blessed that he can live and work in such a beautiful part of the world. "The Tweed Coast is really an idyllic place to live", smiles Laurence. "Between the magical surroundings and my beautiful wife and daughter, I find all the inspiration I need to live life to the full, with plenty of energy left over to help others reach their potential through chiropractic care."

Just as Laurence and Kylie's daughter, Olivia, received her first adjustment within 30 minutes of life and continues to have regular chiropractic check-ups, Laurence loves taking care of babies and children of all ages, and appreciates the opportunity to optimise their nervous system and health right from the start.

Two of Laurence's favourite past-times are gardening and road cycling. It's not uncommon to find Laurence in at the clinic working on the garden at 5.30am (yes, "am"!) on a Sunday morning, indulging in his passion for gardening and landscaping, getting things ready for the next Small Business Garden competition."The simple pleasures in life really are the best", says Laurence. "Gardening provides me with that connection with nature and is incredibly grounding (pardon the pun!). It provides a balance and perspective few other things do in my life and I just simply love it."

While Laurence doesn't cycle so frequently these days, he continues to enjoy every opportunity he gets to jump back in the saddle of his road bike and reminisce the days he took out Australian Masters cycling titles, state titles in NSW and QLD time trial championships, and numerous A-grade club championships."Yes, I get enormous joy out of riding a bike against the clock, (52 minutes, 8 seconds over 40 km was my best result). It's a very pure, Zen like sport that allows you to learn a lot about yourself, both your strengths and your weaknesses. Once cycling's in your blood it's there for life, much like chiropractic", continues Laurence, with a competitive glint in his eye.

Striving to help people reach their full potential:

“I recognise the dedication that performing and riding at an elite level requires, and how important regular chiropractic care is to achieving your personal goals and reaching your peak performance.” Laurence’s clientele includes numerous Australian, World and Olympic champions in a wide range of different sports including, cycling, triathlon, swimming, running, golf, tennis, gymnastics, football, cricket, karate, surfing, ballroom dancing and basket ball.

Along with striving to help people reach their full potential, Laurence also enjoys giving old buildings new life, and the 100 year old Coolamon House is one of his most loved renovation projects.

When Laurence isn't at the clinic, he enjoys a healthy active lifestyle with his family, including daily yoga, regular exercise and weekly chiropractic care. Laurence considers himself a life student in the quest for knowledge about the ultimate question in the understanding of human consciousness: "WHO AM I ?". "The spiritual aspect of my life is something I am deeply humbled and inspired by. To get to witness a power greater than myself at work every day is truly miraculous", says Laurence. "To serve others with chiropractic and watch them become empowered and make healthy life choices is very rewarding".
